Colorful words
Like mating birds
Flit to the page
At any writer’s age.
Muted is good
To hide in the wood
Not making a peep
When predators leap.
Still, bright or strong
Is best for a song
Or story with jazz,
That certain pizzazz.
Yet here as you read
This small, rhyming screed
Black-on-white verse
Or sometime inverse.
It’s an illusion,
Just a confusion.
These words are bright
All colors in sight.
Writing’s an art
If not at the start.
Choose words for your palette
Which strike like a mallet.
Seek out the colorful,
Words of strong impact
Avoid just the “cozy wool”
language in fact.
